Shamrock Rovers' European campaign ends with a whimper in Czech Republic

Stephen Bradley’s men were unable to overturn the first leg deficit as they lost 2-0 tonight.

SHAMROCK ROVERS HAVE bowed out of the Europa League at the second qualifying round stage after a 5-2 aggregate defeat to Czech side Mladá Boleslav.

Stephen Bradley’s side faced an uphill task to overturn a 3-2 first leg deficit and their chances of progressing all but ended when Jan Chramosta turned in from close range after just 11 minutes tonight.

Mladá Boleslav ensured their passage through to the third qualifying round shortly after the half hour mark when Golgol Mebrahtu finished a fine team move to double the hosts’ advantage on the night.

The Hoops showed good fight, however, and continued to battle into the second half but chances were few and far between as David McAllister spurned Rovers’ best sight on goal.

It’s a disappointing end to Rovers’ European campaign for another season but Bradley and his players will reflect on last week’s first leg and acknowledge they left themselves with far too much to do tonight.
