SHAMROCK ROVERS WILL face Burnley in a pre-season friendly for the English club on 14 July, it has been confirmed.
The Clarets have enjoyed a positive first year back in the English top flight, with the club currently 15th and safe from Premier League relegation with one game to play.
A statement today revealed that they would travel to face the League of Ireland side at Tallaght Stadium this summer, as Burnley begin their attempts to build on the current season’s progress.
In addition, the Burnley squad will be based in Ireland for six days as part of their pre-season training schedule in the lead up to the Shamrock Rovers match.
“We’ve decided to stay just outside Dublin, which fitted in with our thinking,” Burnley boss Sean Dyche said following today’s announcement.
I flew out there myself to have a look and it’s a great facility, which is the key.
“It’s a bit closer to home and we’re going to link up with a game at the end of the week which is good for our fans should they want to come over.
It’s a change from the norm. We don’t want to go too far away from our thinking here because we’ve got this new (training) facility, which is fantastic.
“But pre-season is a long period and it’s good to get the lads away where everyone is together for five or six days and you get that little bit of bonding work, as well as the physical and tactical and technical work.”
In addition to the forthcoming game, Shamrock Rovers also have Europa League football to look forward to this summer, while the club say “another high-profile friendly” will be announced over the next few days.
The game will have a 7pm kick off and tickets are now on sale at normal matchday prices; Adults €15, Students & Seniors €10, Children U14 €5.
Tickets are available online here, with a special offer available for Shamrock Rovers members and season ticket holders, which will be communicated via email.
