Danny North inspires Shamrock Rovers to win in Longford

Shamrock Rovers 3

TWO GOALS FROM Danny North inspired Shamrock Rovers to a 3-1 victory over Longford this evening.

Rovers took the lead after just three minutes when Mikey Drennan scored after his initial spot kick had been saved, with Gavin Brennan having been taking down in the lead up.

Shortly thereafter, the visitors could have been awarded a second penalty when David Webster went down in the box, before Danny North made no mistake from just inside the box with a consummate strike.

Longford then reduced the deficit on 26 minutes when Lorcan Shannon toe-poked home after a goalmouth scramble in the Rovers box.

Two minutes before the hour mark, Rovers consolidated their advantage, when North finished coolly after good work from Drennan and Gary McCabe.

The visitors looked relatively comfortable thereafter to earn a well-deserved win and give them a confidence boost ahead of Monday’s crucial clash with Cork City.
