Shakhtar boss keeps promise and dresses as Zorro after side defy odds in Champions League

Paulo Fonseca was true to his word after he saw his men beat Man City.

SHAKHTAR DONETSK CONJURED a superb 2-1 victory over Manchester City tonight, a result that saw them progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League.

It was City’s first defeat in 29 games and ensured the Ukrainian side will play in the round of 16 for the first time in three years.

And it also ensured manager Paolo Fonseca had a promise to keep.

When the group draw was initially made and pitted Shakhtar against City, Napoli and Feyenoord, Fonseca promised he’d dress up as Zorro if his team somehow managed to finish in the top-two.

After suffering a 3-0 defeat in Naples last time out, that didn’t look likely as it meant they’d need something from their clash with Pep Guardiola’s high-flying outfit.

After that game against the Serie A side, Fonseca was quizzed about whether he still felt the Zorro costume would be required.

“Just a minute ago I told the club CEO to prepare the mask. I still believe that at the last press conference you’ll see me dressed as Zorro.”

And that’s what happened.

Thanks to goals from Bernard and Ismaily and an expertly-controlled performance, Fonseca turned up at his post-game press conference dressed as the well-known, masked hero.
