Serie A fixture halted mid-match as 5.4 magnitude earthquake hits central Italy

The referee resumed the game once the tremors had subsided.

A SERIE A fixture between Pescara and Atalanta was halted for several minutes when a strong earthquake struck central Italy this evening.

Referee Marco Guida called a stop to the action in Pescara near the 30 minute mark but restarted the game approximately three minutes later when the tremors subsided.

Central Italy, including the capital Rome, was hit by at least two strong earthquakes on Wednesday evening.

The first quake, which registered a 5.4 magnitude, sent residents running out of their houses and into the streets.
