SERENA WILLIAMS BOOKED her place in the third round of the Australian Open with an easy straight sets win against Hsieh Su-Wei.
Williams won 6-1, 6-2 to take another step towards a record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam title.
The highlight arguably came towards the end of the first set when she was forced wide by Hsieh, and responded with a return around the net:
“It’s always cool to do something fresh and new,” Williams said afterwards. “I don’t know if I have done that [before].”
Elsewhere Roger Federer beat Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3, 7-5, 6-1 while Maria Sharapova won 6-2, 6-1 against world number 105 Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
