BOTH PLAYERS HAD been going through respective slumps but over the weekend, Sebastian Giovinco and Didier Drogba dazzled in Major League Soccer.
The Italian is the reigning MLS MVP after a magnificent debut season with Toronto FC. In 2015, he single-handedly pushed the team to the play-offs for the first time in their history by scoring 22 goals and tallying 16 assists too.
This term, the former Juventus attacker has struggled to reach the same dizzying heights. Before Saturday’s clash with DC United, he’d failed to score in eight games.
But, he announced a return to form with a superb hat-trick, which included two free-kicks.
After 22 minutes, he whipped his first over the wall and inside the near post. And later in the half, he popped up again to curl majestically to the top corner.

He grabbed his third in injury-time as TFC conjured a 4-1 win at BMO Field.
Meanwhile, just a few hours north in Montreal, the Impact went one better and put five past a hapless Philadelphia Union.
38-year-old Drogba hadn’t found the net since the end of May but hit three goals at Saputo Stadium.
His first arrived on 19 minutes – a tap-in at the far post – while he was in the right place at the right time to double Montreal’s lead shortly before the break.
And within a few minutes of the restart, he had his hat-trick.
Brilliantly picked out by the superb Ignacio Piatti, the veteran striker made it look easy from close-range.
Both Montreal and Toronto remain in the post-season race and sit fourth and fifth respectively in the Eastern Conference
