Former Ireland international earns new deal in Major League Soccer

After a period in the doldrums, things are looking up for Sean St Ledger.

FORMER REPUBLIC OF Ireland international defender Sean St Ledger has been rewarded with a new contract at MLS side Colorado Rapids.

The defender moved to the club in August after his release from Orlando SC and made an instant impression, starting in 12 games to end his first season in America strongly.

Although the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, St Ledger’s contract last season saw him earn $150,000.

“Sean has become very important very quickly during his time at Colorado Rapids,” said Paul Bravo, VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director. “He brings experience and quality to the back line and we are very pleased to have secured his future at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.”

“I am delighted to sign a new contract with the Colorado Rapids,” added St Ledger. “I moved mid-season and felt at home immediately.

“It will be great to have a proper pre-season training camp with the group and kick-on in 2016. I am really excited with the plans the club are making for next year.”

The former Preston and Leicester centre-back has his contract ‘waived’ by Orlando for a ‘serious breach of club policy’ but instantly linked-up with Kevin Doyle in Denver.

St Ledger made 37 appearances for Ireland, the last of which came at Euro 2012.
