SEAMUS HICKEY’S BRILLIANT and wholehearted display for the Limerick hurlers yesterday saw him handed the man-of-the-match award on The Sunday Game last night.
But that prize did little to soothe the pain felt by the defender as his side came up short again on the All-Ireland semi-final stage with Kilkenny pipping them by two points.

He gave an emotional interview last night to RTÉ and left no one in doubt as to the pain he was experiencing.
“It’s raw now at the moment, it’s just very raw. We literally poured ourselves out. This is a tough place for us to be.
“We felt we wanted redemption this year, we wanted to come to Croke Park and do ourselves justice, represent ourselves for what we feel the effort we put in and the ability we have.
“The cliche of moral victories is long since empty for this group of players. I’ve the height of respect for Kilkenny. When they needed to respond, we went ahead twice, they got the crucial scores. I’ve the height of respect for them and I wish them the best in the final.”
