The defender was overcome by emotion as he addressed the crowd.

THIS IS WHAT it’s all about.

The whole town turned out for what was an incredible occasion as Coleman greeted fans until the early hours of the morning, signing autographs and taking pictures.

Before the meet and greet in a local hotel, Coleman – who wore the captain’s armband for the games against Italy and France – addressed the crowd and spoke of his pride at representing his country and town.

“To see everyone turn out like this is incredible,” an emotional Coleman said. “I’m so proud to be from Killybegs, to be from Donegal. I haven’t changed over the years, the same player, same determination from my Gaelic days to my soccer days.

“I have to thank my family for the way I was brought up and a lot of you have probably turned out because of the type of guy you think I am. I like to be welcoming, good to all the young kids around the town and a big part of that is the way I was brought up and I thank my family for that massively.”
