Worrying times as Seamus Coleman limps out of Everton win holding his hamstring

Will Coleman be fit for Ireland’s final Euro 2016 qualifiers?

IRELAND FANS FACE an anxious wait for news on Seamus Coleman’s fitness ahead of the Euro 2016 qualification finale.

Coleman hobbled off holding his hamstring as Everton beat Chelsea, and manager Roberto Martinez said it is still too soon to assess the injury.

He sat out Ireland’s win over Gibraltar to rest a tight hamstring but he returned on Monday and played the full 90 minutes against Georgia before starting the Toffees’ 3-1 win this afternoon.

With less than four weeks until the decisive double-header against Germany (8 Oct) and Poland (11 Oct), any setback would be a massive blow to Martin O’Neill’s plans.

“(It’s) too early,” Martinez said when asked about the injuries picked up by Coleman and Muhamed Besic.

“Obviously we are going to assess them over the next 48 hours. I’m sure they are soft tissue problems.

“We’ll find out a bit more tomorrow.”
