Last-gasp penalty sees Scarlets edge Munster

CONWAY TRY

A LAST-GASP penalty from Steven Shingler saw Scarlets edge Munster 25-22 in the Pro12 this evening, overtaking the Irish side at the top of the Pro12 table in the process.

An Andrew Conway try (see above) and a couple of points from the boot of Ian Keatley saw the Irish team claim a 13-6 half-time lead.

However, the hosts fought back, with an early second-half try from DTH van der Merwe helping to inspire the Welsh team’s comeback.

Tom Williams then crossed over in the corner to bring the teams level at 16-16, after the television match official eventually decided to award the try.

Williams was then sin-binned for a high tackle on Conway, and Munster subsequently capitalised, with Keatley sending a drop goal over before increasing his side’s advantage with a penalty.

But it was all about Keatley’s opposite number thereafter, and Shingler’s fifth successful penalty ultimately saw Scarlets claim victory with the last kick of the game from 46m out.

The loss was Munster’s first defeat in five matches, while the Welsh side remain unbeaten.
