IT WAS THIRD time lucky as Sarsfields snatched their latest Kildare senior football title at the expense of Athy.
Beaten finalists in 2013 and again last year, the Sash pulled off a dramatic comeback despite being down to 14 men.
James Eaton’s penalty helped Athy into a 1-6 to 0-7 lead at the break in St Conleth’s Park, and there was still a goal between them with Conor Tiernan was sent off with 20 minutes to play.
But Sarsfields were not to be denied and they drew level at 1-10 to 0-13 with six minutes to play in what was a classic county final.
