IOC denies Ryan Lochte was robbed at gunpoint in Rio

The American swimmer was reportedly the victim of a mugging.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has denied claims American swimmer Ryan Lochte was held up at gunpoint in Rio.

Lochte, who won gold in the men’s 4×200 metre freestyle relay on Tuesday, reportedly had his wallet taken by armed robbers after being invited to a party by Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira.

Quotes have also been attributed to Lochte’s mother claiming she had been in contact with her son after the alleged incident.

However, IOC spokesperson Mark Adams has categorically denied the robbery took place.

Of course they denied it. They’re the ones who have the games taking place in a developing country where crime such as this is at a very high level.
