Ulster poised to sign Springbok international Ryan Kankowski - reports

The 30-year old can play flanker or number eight.

ULSTER HAVE BEEN heavily linked with a move for Springbok international Ryan Kankowski.

Les Kiss’s side are in the market for a top-class back-row to replace Nick Williams who leaves Ravenhill at the end of the season.

BBC report that Ulster are poised to announce the signing of Sharks star Kankowski, 30, who can play at flanker or at number eight.

An Ulster spokesperson told The42 that they do not like to comment on specific players until a move has been agreed, and indicated that ”it will probably be a few weeks” before an announcement on a new back row signing.

Kankowski has won 20 caps for South Africa and would serve as an obvious replacement for Williams who has already agreed a move to the Cardiff Blues.

His arrival would also continue Ulster’s habit of recruiting players from the Natal Sharks, with Kankowski following Stefan Terblanche, BJ Botha, Johann Muller, Ruan Pienaar and Louis Ludik to Belfast.
