'They're enjoying it too much, get ready for the next battle!' - Keane hits out at selfies in football

The former Red Devils skipper is critical of the tendency of modern players to take snaps in the dressing room after games.

ROY KEANE HAS has hit out at the culture of selfies in football, suggesting that modern players are enjoying victories too much.

Keane, who is now working as Republic of Ireland assistant manager, is not a fan of players taking photos in the dressing room after wins and believes that those at big clubs in particular should not dwell on good results for too long.

A number of Paris Saint-Germain players posted dressing-room selfies after their Champions League last-16 first-leg victory over Barcelona and they went on to suffer an incredible defeat in the second leg, while several Arsenal players have come in for criticism in the past for sharing photos after routine successes.

The Corkman, who became accustomed to success during his 12 and a half years at Old Trafford, warned that players should not “go overboard” and instead focus on “the next battle”.

“I see players nowadays, they get a result and they’re taking selfies or swapping jerseys at half-time… they’re almost enjoying it too much,” Keane said in an interview with Newstalk’s Off The Ball.

“If you’re playing for a big club and you get a result, of course enjoy it. But you have to move on pretty quickly and get ready for the next battle.

“Because this game, it can beat you up.

“Enjoy the victories, but don’t go overboard. I see players enjoying victories far too long and I’m talking about weeks, months and years later.”

Keane won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League during his time as a Manchester United player.
