Roy Keane among the early favourites to take over as Hull manager

Steve Bruce’s resignation was confirmed yesterday.

DESPITE HAVING RECENTLY verbally agreed to sign a new contract with the FAI, Roy Keane has emerged as a potential successor to Steve Bruce at Hull.

Several media reports have linked Ireland assistant boss Keane with the vacant role that his ex-teammate officially left yesterday.

Both The Guardian and the BBC have noted how the Corkonian is some bookmakers’ favourite for the job, while The Daily Mail claims Keane “would come firmly into the frame if he puts his name forward”.

Keane has not managed a team since being dismissed from his role as Ipswich boss in January 2011, though he had a brief stint as Aston Villa assistant during Paul Lambert’s tenure in 2014, while simultaneously serving as Martin O’Neill’s number two.

Whether the Man United legend — who has repeatedly stated he is happy in his role with Ireland — would be willing to accept the reported transfer restrictions at Hull, which supposedly prompted Bruce to leave, remains to be seen.

Neil Warnock, Mike Phelan and Ryan Giggs are among the other names being linked with the job.
