Roy Hodgson really went out of his way to say that Wayne Rooney did NOT dive tonight

The England boss was on the BBC panel and did in fact mince his words.

MANCHESTER UNITED SAW off a dogged Preston side 3-1 at Deepdale earlier but the major talking point afterwards was whether or not Wayne Rooney dived to win a penalty to give United a two-goal cushion.

The majority of people watching thought Rooney conned the referee but when the England manager Roy Hodgson was asked by Gary Lineker he said that Rooney had to take ‘evasive action’ to avoid contact.

Fellow pundits Kevin Kilbane and Phil Neville were also in disagreement over the incident.
