DESPITE ANNOUNCING HIS resignation as England manager last night, Roy Hodgson was back in front of the media today for one last time, though he wasn’t very happy about it.
Sitting alongside FA Chief Executive Martin Glenn, Hodgson’s opening words set the tone for what was to follow.
“I don’t really know what I’m doing here”, he began.
I’m no longer the England manager but I was told to come. I suppose someone has to come and take the slings and arrows.”
Hodgson was asked about the rumours suggesting senior players had questioned his tactics and selection for the Slovakia group-stage game – the scoreless draw costing them top-spot.

“They’ve hidden it well (if true)”, he replied.
Martin Glenn, one of the men charged with finding new #ENG manager, has now let us know twice he is "not a football expert."
“Against Slovakia, we dominated from start to finish.”
Hodgson reiterated that he didn’t know why he had to face the media again so Glenn was asked about forcing the former manager to attend.
But the 68-year-old immediately interjected before Glenn could respond.
I was not forced to come, I did so because I’ve never shirked a press conference, I’ve asked questions for four years, and when I was told it could be construed that I was frightened to come, I chose to come. I’m unhappy about it because it’s no longer my job.”
Glenn was quizzed on Hodgson’s replacement and revealed it will not necessarily be an Englishman.
“It will be the best person for the job. I’m not here to talk about names – I’ve been consistent, we’re looking for the best person not necessarily the best Englishman.”
