THE MOST DOMINANT fighter in mixed martial arts will be returning to the octagon on Saturday, 2 January.

It’s been announced that Ronda Rousey (12-0) will defend her UFC women’s bantamweight title against Holly Holm (9-0) at UFC 195 in Las Vegas.

Rousey had been expected to fight Miesha Tate — who she has already beaten twice — next, but instead it’ll be Holm who’ll face the undefeated superstar.

An Olympic bronze medallist in judo in 2008, Rousey has been untouchable since switching to MMA, winning her last four bouts in a combined time of just two minutes and ten seconds.

Rousey announced the fight today on Good Morning America, and the news was later confirmed on Twitter by UFC president Dana White.

Holm is also undefeated in mixed martial arts and made her UFC debut back in February. To date, the 33-year-old has recorded decision wins against Raquel Pennington and Marion Reneau during her time with MMA’s leading promotion.

A native of Albuquerque, Holm is a former world champion boxer who last competed in the ring in 2013. She ended her boxing career with a 33-2-3 record.

“She’s definitely my biggest challenge to date, so I’m super excited about it,” said Rousey. “I prepare for a five-round war every time I get in there. No one’s easy until after you beat them, and with Holly Holm, she’s the type that is ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She’s not the average chick that I fight.

“She’s the best striker I’ve ever fought, and striking is something I learned much later in my career. So I don’t ever expect fights to be easy and fast. No one knows exactly how the fights are going to go, and that’s why everybody buys them.”
