Ross Barkley has one week to decide on Everton future - Ronald Koeman

Spurs are among the club said to be monitoring Barkley’s situation with the club.

RONALD KOEMAN SAYS Ross Barkley has one week to decide on his future with Everton.

Barkley has one year remaining on his contract with the Premier League side but has yet to sign a new deal, while Spurs are among the clubs believed to be monitoring the situation.

Koeman was quoted last month as saying that ‘if he (Barkley) doesn’t sign that contract then we need to sell the player.’

Speaking at a press conference today, the Everton boss said the club are not prepared to wait until the start of next season for Barkley to settle on a decision.

“It’s still one week, time for him to decide because the board is already working a long time to sign Ross for a longer period. It’s up to the player but we don’t wait til August.

Before next week, we need an answer. If we go for a holiday then we need to know, if he (will) accept the contract or we will sell the player.

When asked if he believes Barkley is likely to pen a new deal, Koeman said:

“If you need so much time, then you have doubts.”

He added that the dilemma over Barkley’s future does not concern him, and is looking forward to signing new players next season.

“I like to work with players who stay and we are already trying to get players in for next season.”

23-year-old Barkley has scored four goals from 34 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Everton face Watford this Friday evening before concluding their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on 21 May.
