WAYNE ROONEY WAS in bullish form after helping Man United earn a comfortable win away to Bournemouth in their opening Premier League encounter today.

Speaking to Sky Sports alongside fellow goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rooney dismissed suggestions that he had something to prove as a forward, having been largely deployed as a midfielder towards the end of last season.

“I keep doing it, I’ve nothing to prove to anyone,” he said.

“I’ve played this game a long time, I believe in my own ability, I’m confident. I believe I’m good enough to play and if I play where I played today, I’ll score goals.”
