RONNIE O’SULLIVAN IS in trouble again.

The five-time World Snooker champion caused a fuss at the Crucible on Tuesday when he fell foul of a little-known rule.

O’Sullivan placed his chalk on the table as he lined up a shot in his quarter-final against Stuart Bingham, but referee Terry Camilleri took no action.

BBC Sport reports that World Snooker will look into the incident but there is no possibility of punishment against O’Sullivan, who trails 5-3 after the opening session.

Under Rule 10 (d) (ii),  a foul of seven points shall be awarded if a player uses any object to measure gaps.

“The referee is unaware, Ronnie is too but for me, that is a foul,” Ken Doherty said on BBC. “You are not allowed to do that.”

Referee Michaela Tabb agreed with Doherty and tweeted: “Chalkgate… Foul 7.

“I don’t have Terry’s opinion though, he may have seen it differently. Also the Crucible is the hardest venue to ref in.”

O’Sullivan made headlines when he removed his shoes and played some of his first-round match in his socks, and then made a controversial gesture in his win against Matthew Stevens.
