Rousey plans some time off as she speaks for the first time since shock loss

The UFC star was knocked out by Holly Holm over the weekend.

RONDA ROUSEY ISSUED a positive health update overnight after she was knocked out by Holly Holm on Sunday morning.

The shock second-round loss at UFC 193 in Melbourne was Rousey’s first taste of defeat since the 2008 Olympics, in which she claimed a bronze medal in judo.

Despite entering the bout as one of the biggest favourites in mixed martial arts history, Rousey relinquished her bantamweight title after being hit with a spectacular head-kick.

Having been taken to hospital immediately afterwards, the 28-year-old Californian wasn’t available to speak to the media at the post-event press conference.

UFC president Dana White stated that an immediate rematch is likely, but Rousey says some time off is on the agenda first.

The former champion has taken to Instagram to issue a brief statement, explaining that she’ll back in action after a short break.

“I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support,” Rousey said. “I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine. As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back.”
