First Player of the Month award for Dundalk star following five-goal contribution in April
He’s helping to fill the sizeable void left by Richie Towell.
RONAN FINN HAS been named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for April.
Finn has been rewarded for his excellent form last month, during which the Dundalk midfielder netted on five occasions to help the champions to cement their place at the top of the Premier Division as they chase a third consecutive title.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been to the forefront of Dundalk’s campaign so far, with his performances ensuring that the Lilywhites haven’t struggled in the absence of last season’s star man Richie Towell, who departed for Brighton in the off-season.

Currently in his second season with Stephen Kenny’s side since leaving Shamrock Rovers, Finn has picked up the award for the first time in his career. Last season, his Dundalk team-mates David McMillan, Daryl Horgan and Towell (on three separate occasions) received the honour.
“It’s my first time to win it so I’m delighted,” said Finn. “A few of the lads in the squad have won one and I’ve had a couple of seconds so it’s nice to finally win one.
“April was a good month for us as a team, we picked up some good results and we have kept that good form going. We’ve been playing well. Standards are high and the hunger is still definitely there. Stephen made sure that never slipped.”

Finn beat off competition from Galway United striker Vinny Faherty, who finished second, and Dundalk team-mate Daryl Horgan (third) to win the award.
Dundalk, who travel to face Finn Harps tomorrow evening, currently have a four-point lead over Cork City at the summit of the table.
