Ronaldo shared an emotional moment with his 'football father' last night

Alex Ferguson paid tribute to his former protégé amid one of the star’s career-best moments.

CRISTIANO RONALDO EMBRACED his former manager at Man United Alex Ferguson after winning Euro 2016 with Portugal last night.

Despite leaving to join Real Madrid during Ferguson’s tenure at the Red Devils, the two share a good relationship.

Ronaldo has in the past talked of his former boss as a “football father,” and described how the manager helped him through a difficult personal period.

“When my dad was sick in London and was in hospital — very bad, in a coma — I had a conversation with (Ferguson),” the Portuguese superstar said in 2015.

“I said, ‘Boss, I don’t feel good.’

We are in a key moment in the league and the Champions League , but I say, ‘Boss, I don’t feel good. I want to see my dad.’

“(He said) ‘Cristiano, you want to go one day, two days, one week, you can go. I’m going to miss you here because you know you are important. But your dad (comes) first.

“When he told me that, I thought, ‘This guy’s unbelievable’.

“He was a football father for me.”

Last night, all those positive memories will have undoubtedly been recalled as the legendary Scottish coach congratulated his former protégé amid one of the star’s career-best moments.
