RODDY COLLINS has been unveiled as Waterford United manager this afternoon.

The Blues are rooted to the foot of the SSE Airtricity League First Division with just one win from their first 10 games.

Collins will replace Tommy Griffin, who is expected to stay on as part of the management team at the RSC.

“All the players will get a fair crack if the whip to show what they can do,” Collins wrote in his Irish Daily Star column this week.

And I can guarantee the fans on Suirside that I will improve each and every player.

It’s a year and a day since the colourful Dubliner was sacked by Derry City after a disastrous start to the 2014 season.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the club,” Collins said at today’s press conference. “It is an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. This is a massive job and one I’m really looking forward to.”

Collins’ first game in charge is against Cabinteely this Friday.

“The facilities that the club use are superb: a superb pitch, two fantastic stands in the RSC and top class facilities to train in. The potential for this club is massive and I can’t wait for the game this Friday.

“When I met with the club, what swayed me to come here was the guys who I spoke with. They love the club and their professional approach was undoubted and I like that style.”
