EXACTLY 18-YEARS AGO today — when most of those getting ready for the Leaving Cert to start this morning weren’t even born — the opening game of ‘Le Tournoi’ was taking place in Lyon.
Most people have probably forgotten who won the tournament featuring Italy, England, Brazil and France (it was England) but anyone who watched it will remember it for one reason in particular.
In the 21st minute of their opening game with France, Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos did this:
