According to the newspaper, Preston boss Simon Grayson would like to add Keane to his squad as they attempt to push into the mix for a play-off spot.
However, the report suggests that the 36-year-old striker’s wage demands could prove to be a stumbling block.
Keane, who retired from international duty last August, scored 317 goals in a career that has spanned 20 years.
Keane would join a significant cohort of Irish players at Deepdale if he were to join, with Greg Cunningham, Alan Browne, Andy Boyle, Daryl Horgan, Aiden McGeady and Eoin Doyle already at the club.
