‘IF YOU HAD asked me before I would have probably said manager’, responds Robbie Keane to a query about his preferred role when he eventually retires into a backroom.

“But once I got involved and got into the coaching I really enjoyed it.”

From watching the above snippets of Robbie Keane taking a training session, his words absolutely ring true. Maybe it’s his time imparting wisdom in LA (or maybe it’s just that big lagging jacket, but Keane looks completely at ease lay0ing out the markers and giving direction rather than being the one asked to go from cone to cone.

Keane was interviewed while in Carlow IT where he and Carlo Cudicini were completing the final assessment of their UEFA B diploma.

Like Keane, the Italian ‘keeper also counts LA Galaxy and Tottenham among his list of one time employers and he is currently coaching within the Spurs academy.

The ex-team mates joined up for an intense two day schedule with CIT’s Sport and Exercise degree third years, a course run in conjunction with the FAI and IRFU.
