Hamstring makes Rob Kearney a 'major doubt' for Leinster's clash with Wasps

However, there’s good news in relation to Luke Fitzgerald and Ben Te’o.

LEINSTER ARE POSITIVE about Luke Fitzgerald’s and Ben Te’o’s chances of facing Wasps in their Sunday Champions Cup opener, but Rob Kearney is a major doubt.

The international fullback pulled up after winning a race for a grubber kick beyond Leinster’s try-line in the 19 – 15 win over Scarlets on Friday, and backs coach Girvan Dempsey today confirmed a hamstring strain for Kearney.

“Rob pulled up with tightness in his hamstring, he would be a concern and probably a major doubt with that hamstring strain.”

The news is much better about Fitzgerald, who wasn’t considered for the Scarlets clash after taking a blow to his shoulder in Treviso.

“He went to see the consultant and, we’ll have to see how he goes in training this week, but we’re pretty confident his shoulder is good and he’s keen to get going.

Just a stinger, he went in for that extra-man tackle and got caught on the top of the shoulder. We’re confident he’ll be available this weekend.”

Te’o will begin the week nursing ‘a minor glute issue’ after placing less than 30 minutes between replacing Kearney and making way for Jonathan Sexton in the RDS.

Hooker Sean Cronin also says he is over the shoulder stinger picked up in Treviso and will hope to reclaim the number two jersey.
