Magic Riyad Mahrez voted PFA Players' Player of the Year

The France-born Algerian international is the first African to take the honour.

LEICESTER CITY PLAYMAKER Riyad Mahrez has been voted Players’ Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers Association in England.

The Algerian international has scored 17 goals and contributed 11 assists to the Foxes’ unlikely run to the brink of a Premier League title and won the gong ahead of his prolific team-mate Jamie Vardy and Spurs’ Harry Kane.

The 25-year-old is the first African representative to win the award in England, but he is the fourth French-born winner, following in the footsteps of Eric Cantona (1993-94, David Ginola (’98-’99)  and Thierry Henry (2002-03 and ’03-’04).

Spurs’ Delle Alli was named Young Player of the Year.
