Richie Towell comes off the bench and nets injury-time winner on his Rotherham home debut

The Dubliner will spend the rest of the season with the League One side.

RICHIE TOWELL GRABBED a last-gasp winner on his home debut for Rotherham United as they beat Bury 3-2 in their League One clash this afternoon.

The Dubliner signed a season-long loan deal with the club on deadline day, with opportunities limited at Brighton – where he’s been since last year.

Despite coming on as a late replacement against Portsmouth last Sunday, the 26-year-old was still short on match fitness so started on the bench for the Millers. But, he was called into the game shortly before the break after defender Shaun Cummings picked up an injury.

With the score tied at 1-1, Rotherham reshuffled the pack a little and Towell took his place in midfield.

Rotherham surrendered a lead again midway through the second-half but Towell popped up on the edge of the box right on the stroke of 90 minutes to drive home what proved the winner.

After a difficult time at Brighton, here’s hoping a successful loan stint can stir Towell’s confidence and reignite things for him in England.
