The new deal runs to 2019.

NEWLY-PROMOTED BRIGHTON have extended Richie Towell’s deal to 2019.

It was reported during the week that the former Dundalk midfielder was set to be sent out on loan as Chris Hughton’s side made the move to the Premier League.

“We have been really delighted with Richie but we are very keen for him to get out on loan to the Championship next season,” the Brighton boss told The Argus newspaper earlier this week. “Players like Rohan [Ince] and Richie will go out on loan.”

The club confirmed today that they have given him a contract extension. It was announced on their official website, along with the news that David Stockdale, Gaetan Bong, Steve Sidwell and Niki Maenpaa’s have all been offered new deals too.

25-year-old Towell made the move to Brighton in January 2016, having helped Dundalk to the double the previous season as he scored 29 goals in all competitions.

The Dubliner has found opportunities hard to come by since moving to the Amex Stadium however, and has made just one appearance off the bench this season.

Elsewhere, Ireland U21 international Reece Grego-Cox has signed a new one-year deal with QPR.

The Hammersmith-born forward played briefly in the Premier League when his side were there, and made his top-flight debut in March 2015.
