Richie Towell scored his first ever goal in English football for Brighton earlier today

A good day for the former Dundalk player but a bad one for his employers.

RICHIE TOWELL IS up and running at Brighton after scoring his first senior goal in English football in his side’s FA Cup clash with Lincoln this afternoon.

It’s been a long road for the former Dundalk attacker, who joined the Seagulls last January after a couple of magnificent seasons in the League of Ireland.

The 25-year-old found it hard to break through to Chris Hughton’s first-team in his debut campaign while injury forced him to miss a large chunk of the first part of this season.

But the Cup has been good to him so far this year. He was handed a rare start in Brighton’s Third Round win over MK Dons earlier this month and now he’s found the net against the non-league Imps.

Towell netted after 24 minutes – finishing well after making a good run from midfield.

But, Brighton crumbled in the second-half and surrendered the lead after conceding twice inside five minutes. Late on Lincoln grabbed a third to progress to the last 16 of the competition.
