AUSTRALIA IS SET to play host to a revolutionary new format for golf next February, when the inaugural World Super 6 Perth is held at Lake Karrinyup Country Club.
Co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia, the event will see 54 holes of regular stroke play — with a cut after two rounds — before a knockout match play format is used on the final day of competition.

The leading 24 players will contest six-hole shootouts — with any tied matches decided on a purpose-built 90-metre ‘Knockout Hole’. If that is halved, the competitors will return to the tee for a nearest-the-pin contest.
Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia and PGA Tour of Australasia, said: “This is an exciting day for international golf as we launch the World Super 6 Perth; a golf tournament which is set to change the way people view golf.
Cricket has Twenty20, Netball has Fast5, Rugby Union has Rugby 7s and now golf has the World Super 6 Perth.”
European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley added: “This initiative was something that we spoke about at great length to our tournament committee, led by chairman Thomas Bjorn. We are thrilled to participate in this because, at the European Tour, we believe that golf needs to look at new and innovative formats.”
The news was quickly welcomed by two-time European Tour winner and former Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari.
He tweeted: “This could be such a game-changer!!! Well done Keith Pelley and everyone else involved! #innovation”
