The climax to the league season (kick-off 18.30, Saturday) will pit Munster against Gregor Townsend’s Glasgow Warriors and with both sides priding themselves on their attack, the appointment of Owens should allow them to put their best foot forward.
Owens has earned a reputation as a referee who allows games to flow. Combining a strictness that can nip problems in the bud early on, with a lenience that keeps the whistle out of his mouth where possible.

The final will be Owens’ third having presided over two Irish wins on Irish soil including Munster’s 2011 victory over Leinster. Glasgow Warriors will be hoping to buck that trend, particularly as they wound up on the losing side last year against Matt O’Connor’s Leinster with Owens in charge.
Alongside Owens will be his WRU officiating team of Ian Davies, Sean Brickell and TMO Derek Beven. Gwyn Morris and Wayne Davies will be fourth and fifth official with Italy’s Stefano Marrama appointed citing commissioner.
