Former Man United coach offers Ravel Morrison a lifeline after Lazio disaster

Warren Joyce has invited the midfielder to train with Wigan.

FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Ravel Morrison is training with Wigan Athletic as he looks to secure a move back to England after a disastrous spell with Lazio.

The 23-year-old, who had failed to make an appearance for the Serie A club this season and has been allowed leave the club, was invited to train with Wigan by manager and former mentor Warren Joyce.

Joyce would have overseen Morrison’s development through Man United’s youth and academy structures and reports say he linked-up with the Wigan squad yesterday.

Morrison was widely-considered as one of the most promising English players of his generation after breaking through at Man United as a 17-year-old.

But after failing to kick-on at Old Trafford, Morrison has endured a troubled career since after spells with West Ham, Birmingham, QPR, Cardiff and then Lazio.

The England U21 international moved to Italy on a four-year contract in July 2015 but played just four games for Lazio during an unsettled time in Rome.

Joyce, however, believes he can get the best out of Morrison and use him to aid his side’s bid to avoid relegation after a difficult first half of the season.

Wigan are currently languishing in 23rd in the Championship with just four wins from 25 league outings.

They welcome Nottingham Forest to the DW Stadium in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
