RANGERS HAVE ANNOUNCED the signing of former Ireland U21 international Rob Kiernan from Wigan Athletic.

The 24-year-old central defender, who has captained the Boys in Green at both U19 and U21 level, has signed a two-year deal with the Scottish Championship side.

English-born Kiernan began his professional career at Watford, where he worked with new Rangers manager Mark Warburton, before moving to the Latics in 2011.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City and is the second Irish player to depart Wigan, relegated to League One back in April, this week as James McClean sealed a move to West Brom yesterday.
