Rangers suffer humiliating European exit after defeat to lowly Luxembourg minnows

Meanwhile, for Progres Niederkorn, it was a moment to remember.

RANGERS ARE OUT of Europe after a disastrous 2-0 second-leg Europa League qualifier defeat to lowly Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn.

The Scottish side had a slender one-goal lead from the first clash at Ibrox and despite hitting the woodwork three times, they conceded twice in the second-half to suffer major embarrassment.

This will go down as the team’s worst ever European result considering their opponents are playing in just their seventh Euro campaign ever.

The finer details are even more damning.

Progres’ two goals this evening is two-thirds of all the goals they have ever scored in European competition.

They advanced to the qualification stage of the Europa League after finishing fourth in the Luxembourg league – behind the likes of Dudelange, FC Differdange 03 and CS Fola Esch.

Last season, they were ranked 436th in Uefa’s club rankings.

This was supposedly Rangers’ grand return – their first European away fixture in six years – but, instead, it will be a firm reminder to boss Pedro Caixinha of how much work remains.
