HER RIO CAMPAIGN might not have gone to plan but boy did Sanita Puspure finish in style.

And she followed that performance up today with another impressive outing, winning today’s C final with almost three seconds to spare over Lithuania’s Lina Saltyte in second and finishing five seconds ahead of Anna Malvina Svennung of Sweden in third.
It will help ease the pain for Puspure, who came in to the Games with great expectations on the back of winning a bronze medal in the European Championships in Germany earlier this year.
Tuesday’s fourth-place finish in the quarter-final ended her hopes of Olympic glory prematurely but to her credit the Latvian-born 34-year-old showed her class over the past two days.
It means Puspure claims 13th place overall in the women’s singles sculls and is yet another boost for Ireland’s rowing community which is still pinching itself following the silver medal-winning heroics of the O’Donovan brothers yesterday.
