As it happened: PSG v Liverpool, Tottenham v Inter - Champions League tracker

We followed all the action from Paris and Wembley.

Hello and welcome along to our live coverage of this evening’s Champions League action, as Liverpool bid to follow Manchester United and Manchester City by booking their place in the knockout stages, while Tottenham must beat Inter Milan to keep their hopes of progression alive.

It’s a big night of European action and we’re following it all from the Parc des Princes and Wembley, while we’ll also be keeping an eye on the other six games on the continent.

Liverpool’s clash against PSG in Paris is our feature game of the night, and Jurgen Klopp’s side can book their spot in the last 16 if they record victory and Red Star Belgrade do not win at Napoli in the other Group C game.

As for Tottenham, the scenario is rather straightforward. They must beat Inter at Wembley this evening to keep their campaign alive, having collected just four points from their opening four Group B outings.

TEAM NEWS: Hot off the press, Jurgen Klopp has made two changes to his side from Saturday’s 3-0 win at Watford, with Joe Gomez and James Milner coming into the starting XI.

They replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri, who both drop to the bench.

Liverpool: Alisson, Gomez, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

TEAM NEWS: The big news from a PSG point of view is that Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are both fit to start having missed out at the weekend through injury.

Thomas Tuchel has made four changes overall, with Thilo Kehrer and Juan Bernat also coming into the French champions’ XI. Thomas Meunier, Adrien Rabiot, Julian Draxler and Moussa Diaby are the players to drop out.

PSG: Buffon, Kehrer, Thiago Silva, Kimpembe, Bernat, Verratti, Marquinhos, Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria, Cavani.

STATE OF PLAY: Before going any further, let’s take a check on the Group C table and permutations ahead of tonight’s games.

Liverpool lead the way from second-placed Napoli on goal difference, with the Italian side hosting Red Star Belgrade this evening.

  •  If Liverpool win in Paris, they will go through if Red Star Belgrade do not win against Napoli.
  • A PSG v Liverpool draw would see qualification go down to final round of games in two weeks’ time.
  • If Liverpool lose, they must beat Napoli at Anfield in their final group game to have chance of qualifying.

A little over half an hour until we get underway in Paris.

TEAM NEWS: Spurs are in must-win territory and this is the team Mauricio Pochettino has trusted to get the job done against Inter tonight.

The surprise is that neither Christian Eriksen or Son Heung-min start for the hosts, with the pair dropping out as two of four changes in personnel from Saturday’s Premier League win over Chelsea.

Juan Foyth and Eric Dier are the other players to miss out, with Jan Vertonghen, Harry Winks, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura all starting.

Tottenham: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Lamela, Dele, Lucas, Kane.

TEAM NEWS: And this is how Inter will line out, with start names Marcelo Brozovic, Matias Vecino, Ivan Perisic and Mauro Icardi all returning.

Inter: Handanovic, D’Ambrosio, Skriniar, De Vrij, Asamoah, Brozovic, Vecino, Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic, Icardi.

The weather isn’t great in London for this Group B encounter.

It’s full-time in the evening’s two early games, with Atletico Madrid’s comfortable 2-0 victory over Monaco ensuring them progression through to the knockout stages.

So, here are the teams already assured of a place in the last 16. Can Liverpool join them later?

Qualified: Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Roma, Porto, Schalke.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to BT Sport before kick-off.

Playing in Paris is already big enough and you see the opponent, it is even bigger. We are quite a good football team so all good.

We need to show up, be there, be positive, be aggressive in a legal way and we are ready to block what they are going to do. We are ready to be cheeky.

Trent Alexander-Arnold played brilliant in the first game but it is about using the fresh legs of Joe Gomez and he is slightly more of a defender which makes sense against these boys.

We know the system but then we will see on the pitch. Not a lot of changes but still happy with the team.

KICK OFF! The teams are out in Paris and London, and we’re underway in both games.

1 mins – PSG on the front foot straight away but Cavani was unable to trap the through ball having got in behind the Liverpool defence.

It appears the hosts are lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in the opening exchanges, with Di Maria on the left and Neymar dropping slightly deeper in a playmaking role. They’ve got quality all over.

3 mins – Ominous early signs for the Reds as Mbappé gets in behind on the right, but his shot is deflected wide for a corner. At the other end, Liverpool win a corner of their own but it’s a poor delivery from Salah. Brilliant atmosphere inside the Parc des Princes as you would imagine.

6 mins — Save! Lovely inter-change play between Mbappé and Di Maria creates a yard of space for the latter, and his dipping volley from range forces Alisson into a very smart save to claw it away. Lively start in Paris.

7 mins — Important intervention from Lovren as the Croatian defender stepped in ahead of Mbappé after a dangerous ball was whipped in from the right by Kehrer. Liverpool need to weather this early storm.

8 mins – Over at Wembley, Tottenham have started with plenty of intent and Harry Kane has come close to opening the scoring, but his effort from a tight angle is blocked by Hananovic. Spurs then have a big penalty appeal waved away.

12 mins – In the other game in Group C, Napoli have just taken the lead against Red Star Belgrade through Marek Hamsik.

12 mins — GOAL! PSG 1-0 Liverpool (Bernat)

The Parc des Princes explodes into life, as PSG’s bright start is converted into an early lead. Juan Bernat fires low past Alisson from close range and the Reds face an uphill task now.

It was poor defending from Liverpool’s point of view, as neither Gomez or Lovren could deal with the initial danger, allowing Bernat to latch onto it and slot it into the corner.

17 mins – PSG are certainly fired up for this and they’re completely dominant at the moment, probing for a second goal. The Reds have yet to get into the game.

21 mins – Liverpool’s midfield is being completely overrun but they still pose a real threat at the other end, with Salah trying his luck from just outside the area but the angle was against him.

22 mins – Shortly after PSG’s opener, Gini Wijnaldum scythed Neymar down and was shown a yellow for his troubles.

24 mins – Marco Verratti goes into the referee’s book for a really reckless challenge on Joe Gomez, who is thankfully okay because that was high and late. The Italian was fortunate to get away with a caution there.

25 mins – Meanwhile, Tottenham have really taken the game to Inter at Wembley and Harry Kane is leading the charge. It remains goalless in that one but Spurs have started very brightly indeed.

Tottenham Hotspur v Inter Milan - UEFA Champions League - Group B - Wembley Stadium Nick Potts Nick Potts

26 mins – Having seized control of the game, PSG have been happy to drop a little deeper in the last few minutes, allowing Liverpool to see more of the ball. The Reds are, however, lacking that final bit of quality in the attacking third thus far.

30 mins — Chance! Warning signs again for Liverpool. PSG break with pace and precision, exposing the visitors’ defence as Mbappe is fed down the left by Neymar, and he in turns looks to square for Cavani but Alisson is off his line to avert the danger.

32 mins – PSG are absolutely lethal and have cut Liverpool’s defence apart on a number of occasions now. When that front four of Cavani, Di Maria, Mbappé and Neymar combine, they’re almost unstoppable.

34 mins – Gomez is the latest player to go into the book for cynically dragging Neymar back as the Brazilian looked to streak clear.

The stars are out in Paris tonight, with Leonardo DiCaprio (middle row, second left) and Mick Jagger (middle row, second right) among those in attendance.

Paris Saint-Germain v Liverpool - UEFA Champions League - Group C - Parc Des Princes Adam Davy Adam Davy

36 mins — GOAL! PSG 2-0 Liverpool (Neymar)

My word, Liverpool are absolutely torn apart. Mbappé and Neymar play a lovely one-two on halfway to set the former away, and although Cavani’s initial effort is brilliantly saved by Alisson, Neymar is on hand to tuck the rebound away.

Liverpool simply could not deal with the pace and precision of that PSG break, and they’re on the ropes here.

40 mins – Spurs are getting closer at Wembley and Harry Winks is desperately unlucky to see his curling effort come back off the bar. Remember, Pochettino’s side need to beat Inter tonight to keep their chances of progression alive.

44 mins — Penalty to Liverpool! Out of nothing, the visitors have a route back into the game after Mane breaks down the left and Di Maria lunges in. The referee doesn’t give the spot-kick initially but he gets assistance from one of his officials and the penalty is awarded. Milner to step up!

45 mins — GOAL! PSG 2-1 Liverpool (Milner)

And he scores! Milner sends Buffon the wrong way and Liverpool are right back in this one on the stroke of half-time.

Half-time! Tottenham 0-0 Inter

No breakthrough for Spurs after dominating the first period and coming close on a couple of occasions. Work to do for Pochettino’s men at Wembley.

Half-time! PSG 2-1 Liverpool

PSG were cruising through goals from Bernat and Neymar but the whole complexion of this tie has changed at the end of that first period, with Liverpool given a lifeline thanks to Milner’s penalty.

Not sure how Liverpool have managed to go in trailing by just one goal at the break, but Di Maria’s clumsy challenge has given them a chance at the Parc des Princes. A fascinating 45 minutes coming up. We’ll take a check on the half-time scores next…

Here are the latest scores from around Europe:

Group A:

  • Atletico Madrid 2-0 Monaco (FT)
  • Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Club Brugge (HT)

Group B:

  • PSV Eindhoven 0-0 Barcelona (HT)
  • Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Inter (HT)

Group C:

  • Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Liverpool (HT)
  • Napoli 2-0 FK Crvena Zvezda (HT)

Group D:

  • Lokomotiv Moscow 2-0 Galatasaray (HT)
  • FC Porto 0-0 Schalke 04 (HT)

KICK OFF! The teams are back out in Paris and we’re up and running again. Also underway at Wembley.

46 mins — Offside! PSG have the ball in the back of the net again, but the flag is up. Neymar whips in a low ball from a free-kick on the left and Marquinhos slides in to stab it home but he was in an offside position as the ball came in. Let-off for Liverpool.

54 mins — Liverpool are enjoying a lot more of the ball since the restart and although PSG look ominously dangerous at one end, the Reds are causing problems of their own at the other end. Thiago Silva was forced to intercept Robertson’s cross on that occasion.

55 mins – Game has got a bit sloppy and that’s really poor from Firmino as he overhits his cross after finding space on the right. The Brazilian has been very quiet tonight.

57 mins – Liverpool growing in confidence as they gain a stranglehold in proceedings. This PSG defence looks vulnerable, and Kimpembe was very fortunate there as he turned back into danger, but Salah and Firmino were unable to steal it.

59 mins – Liverpool are enjoying an excellent spell and after Salah cuts in-field to have his shot blocked, Firmino is then unable to direct his header on target at the near-post. Encouraging signs for the visitors.

61 mins – Tottenham are pushing and probing, but still can’t find a breakthrough. Kane comes close again but it has been a frustrating night for Spurs at Wembley so far.

63 mins – Liverpool are finding space to exploit between the lines but they’ve lacked a cutting edge in the final third, which is letting them down. PSG, meanwhile, are about to make a couple of changes.

64 mins – Dani Alves is coming on for Di Maria and Thomas Tuchel is also sending former Stoke forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on for Cavani.

65 mins – Klopp has responded with his first change, as Keita is introduced for Wijnaldum.

69 mins — Save! Liverpool fall asleep at the set-piece and Marquinhos gets a run at Lovren, powering a header goalwards but Alisson is equal to the task and parries it to safety.

70 mins – Liverpool are making their second change as Firmino — who hasn’t had much of an impact — is replaced by Daniel Sturridge, who scored in the matchday one meeting of these sides at Anfield.

72 mins – Spurs are running out of time at Wembley and Pochettino has sent Son and Christian Eriksen on for Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura.

It remains goalless at Wembley…

gettyimages-1066202280-594x594 AFP / Getty Images AFP / Getty Images / Getty Images

75 mins – Hugo Lloris has just pulled off a brilliant save to deny Ivan Perisic at Wembley. Tottenham living dangerously, but remain alive.

76 mins – 15 minutes to go and Klopp has made his final change, throwing Shaqiri on as the Reds go in search of an equaliser. Milner the man to make way.

78 mins — GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Inter (Christian Eriksen)

Spurs lead, and what a huge goal that could be! Wembley comes alive as the substitute, Christian Eriksen, finds the all-important breakthrough for the hosts. Sissoko and Dele Alli combine, before the Dane rifles it into the roof of the net with his left boot.

81 mins – As it stands, Tottenham sit second in Group B ahead of their matchday six trip to the Camp Nou.

82 mins – Back in Paris, there are huge appeals for a penalty from the crowd as Van Dijk comes across to nick it away from Neymar, who goes down under the challenge. The referee isn’t interested.

Spurs’ super sub!

gettyimages-1066205084-594x594 Getty Images Getty Images

83 mins – Great defensive work from Robertson as he shows Mbappé wide and onto his left foot, before getting in an important block. PSG looked to counter there as Liverpool were caught up field.

85 mins – Final PSG change as Mbappé is replaced by Rabiot. Five minutes plus stoppage time left in Paris.

90 mins – Three minutes added on at Wembley. Spurs hanging on for a vital win.

90 mins — Big chance for Liverpool here as Kimpembe fouls Salah just outside the area, but as Shaqiri clips the ball in, the referee’s whistle goes. Thiago Silva went down in the box and Van Dijk is the man penalised.

90 mins – Five minutes of added time at the Parc des Princes!

Full-time! Tottenham 1-0 Inter

Spurs get the job done…just. But they’ve secured a massive three points and head to the Camp Nou on matchday six in second place in Group B. Eriksen the hero at Wembley.

90 + 2 mins – Time running out for the Reds. Van Dijk and Roberston go into the book and PSG are doing their best to run the clock down.

90 + 4 mins – Last chance for Liverpool…

Full-time! PSG 2-1 Liverpool

So PSG hold out and it’s the French champions who are now in control of their own destiny heading into the final group game. They’re in prime position to qualify from Group C thanks to first-half goals from Bernat and Neymar.

Liverpool were handed a lifeline on the stroke of half-time through Milner’s penalty, but they huffed and puffed in the second half without creating anything of note and they must now beat Napoli at Anfield by two clear goals to progress.

It’s all going down to the wire!
