'I'm proud of Manchester United link,' admits Atletico ace

The Brazilian intends to honour his Rojiblancos contract, which runs for another 18 months.

ATLETICO MADRID DEFENDER Miranda has admitted he is “proud” to be linked with Manchester United, though insists he wants to stay with the Spanish champions.

Reports have suggested Louis van Gaal’s side could make a move for the centre-back in the summer as the Red Devils look to bolster their defence.

And the Brazil international feels such links show that he is performing well for Diego Simeone’s team.

“Of course this news reaches me, and it makes me happy. It shows I am doing well,” he told Estadao.

“It makes me proud, but my intention is to stay at Atletico because I still have a year and a half on my contract.”

Miranda was a key member of Simeone’s squad as they beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the Spanish title in 2014 but faces increased competition for his place from Jose Maria Gimenez as well as Toby Alderweireld when his loan spell at Southampton is completed.
