United Irishmen: Preston set to follow up Sean Maguire signing with another raid on Cork City

Kevin O’Connor is set to sign with the Championship side in the coming days.

CORK CITY DEFENDER Kevin O’Connor is expected to follow the lead of team-mate Sean Maguire and sign for Championship side Preston North End.

It’s understood that the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been a target for a while and that boss Simon Grayson will make his move for the full-back in the coming days.

It wouldn’t be the first time that PNE swooped for a pair of League of Ireland team-mates, having brought in Dundalk duo Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle midway through the 2016/2017 campaign.

The 22-year-old’s capture would make it seven Irish players in the first-team dressing room with Greg Cunningham, Eoin Doyle and Alan Browne also part of the setup at Deepdale.

O’Connor is a native of Enniscorthy in Wexford and arrived on Leeside from Waterford United midway through the 2015 season.
