Manchester City set a club record of 10 successive league victories by maintaining their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-0 win over Watford at Eastlands on Saturday.
They were patient in breaking down a dogged but limited Watford side, and by the end of the match were showing the attacking verve which has made them the early favourites to win the title.
Raheem Sterling’s first competitive goal for City since his £49 million move from Liverpool set up the win early in the second half, before Fernandinho added a second with a fierce drive to end the newly-promoted visitors’ unbeaten league start.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are three points clear at the top of the table after winning their first four league matches of the season without conceding a goal.

AFC Bournemouth 1 – 1 Leicester City
Jamie Vardy’s penalty rescued a late point for Leicester City as they maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.
The visitors were decidedly below par for the most part at Dean Court, but Vardy’s mazy run drew a poor challenge from Steve Cook and the striker duly converted from the penalty spot.
Claudio Ranieri’s men had long been staring defeat in the face following a stunning first-half overhead kick from Callum Wilson, who scored a hat-trick in last weekend’s 4-3 win at West Ham.

Sunderland are still chasing their first Premier League win of the season, but first club goals for Yann M’Vila and Jeremain Lens earned Dick Advocaat’s men a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday.
‘Crisis talks’ following two consecutive defeats at the start of the campaign seem to have made an impact at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland followed up a draw against Swansea City with another resolute display, securing a point despite Scott Sinclair netting twice for Villa.
Stoke City 0 – 1 West Brom
Tony Pulis celebrated his return to the Britannia Stadium with a 1-0 victory over nine-man Stoke. It was West Brom’s first win of the season.
The match was decided by a headed goal on the stroke of half-time by new Venezuelan signing Salomon Rondon following a deft cross from former Southampton and Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes was left fuming as Ibrahim Afellay was sent off on 25 minutes for a slap in the face of a West Brom player before Charlie Adam swiftly followed him with a straight red for stamping.
West Brom now have four points from four matches and picked up a rare away win while Stoke have just two draws from their opening quartet of fixtures.
