Rooney to end drought and 5 Premier League bets to consider this weekend

We’re also predicting draws in Saturday’s derbies and Chelsea to keep a clean sheet against goal-shy Villa.

Man City to win -2 against Hull (7/5)

THEY MAY STILL be without Ivorian pair Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony, who will contest the African Cup of Nations final against Ghana on Sunday, but the current champions have more than enough strength-in-depth to earn a routine win over the Tigers — who have suffered defeat in their last three league outings.

Derby double: Tottenham v Arsenal (5/2) and Everton v Liverpool (12/5) to draw

Spurs and Arsenal meet in the afternoon kick-off at White Hart Lane, then it’s over to Goodison Park at 5.30pm for the Merseyside derby. There are just two points between Tottenham and the Gunners and it is likely to be just as tight as it was back in September when the game finished 1-1.

As their league place position suggests, Everton’s form has been well below par but they are capable of earning a share of the spoils against the Reds.

Chelsea to keep a clean sheet (4/6)

No club in all four divisions of English football have scored less goals than Aston Villa this season. The goal-shy Midlanders have mustered up just 11 goals in 23 league games and have now failed to hit the back of the net in over 10 hours of football.

On top of that, only Southampton have conceded less goals than Villa’s opponents Chelsea.

QPR to hold Southampton to a draw (5/2)

Lying second from bottom in the table, QPR face high-flying Southampton at Loftus Road without their recently-departed manager.

Harry Redknapp vacated the position during the week, meaning Chris Ramsey and Kevin Bond take temporary charge of the Rs. The odds are stacked against them but we’re backing them to avoid defeat at home.

Wayne Rooney to score first against West Ham (6/1)

Louis van Gaal appears to prefer his skipper in central midfield, meaning Rooney has been busy making tackles and beginning attacks instead of scoring goals.

Rooney has got just eight so far this term and is without a goal since St Stephen’s Day, but, as his 55-yard strike against the Hammers at Upton Park last season proved, he doesn’t need to be inside the box to find the target.
