LOI Division 1 wrap: Leaders Athlone come undone against Wexford Youths

Elsewhere, UCD took the lead twice but still had to be content with a 2-2 draw against Finn Harps in Belfield.

PREMIER DIVISION ONE leaders Athlone suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Wexford Youths in the SSE Airtricity League First Division tonight.

Aidan Keenan scored the only goal of the game on 49 minutes as Athlone experienced their first loss of the season.

Elsewhere, UCD took the lead twice but still had to be content with a 2-2 draw against Finn Harps in Belfield.

Mick Leahy put the Students ahead on 16 minutes before Wilfried Tagbo equalised five minutes later.

Jamie Doyle’s goal just after the hour mark put the hosts in command, before Kevin McHugh rescued a point for his side nine minutes from time.

Finally, some late drama ensured Shels rescued a 2-2 draw in Waterford.

Goals from Willie John Kiely and Brian Nolan appeared to have earned their side all three points, but two goals in the last 10 minutes from Gareth Coughlan and Craig Walsh salvaged a point for the visitors.
