Portumna 0-19
Mount Leinster Rangers 0-11
PORTUMNA ARE THE 2014 SHC club champions following a 0-19 to 0-11 win over Mount Leinster Rangers today.
They led for the majority of the contest, establishing a 0-9 to 0-5 half-time lead, before consolidating that advantage in the second period.
Mount Leinster Rangers threatened a comeback in the second half, with points from Paul Coady and Denis Murphy bringing them back to within four points of their opponents, before they pulled away again to secure an eight-point victory.
The Carlow side started brightly with Murphy getting the first point of the game before Joe Canning responded with a strike from a free for their rivals. After points by Edward Byrne and Murphy put Mount Leinster Rangers 0-3 to 0-1 ahead, Portumna subsequently took control of the contest, hitting six unanswered scores.
Efforts from Damien Hayes and Joe Canning extended their advantage further, as they earned a four-point lead at the break.
The second half acquired a similar pattern, as the Galwegians gradually edged away from their opponents on the scoreboard.
With the score at 0-13 to 0-9, four pints from Joe Canning enabled his side to establish an insurmountable lead in the final 10 minutes, ultimately winning the game by a relatively comfortable margin of eight points.
In addition, Mount Leinster’s Edward Coady was sent off late on to complete a miserable day for the Carlow champions.
It’s Portumna’s fourth All-Ireland senior hurling club title overall, after previous wins in 2006, 2008 and 2009. They now go second with Birr’s Offaly in the overall roll of honour, just behind Kilkenny’s Ballyhale Shamrocks.

I hope liverpool lose.
@Colm: so they can be losers ? Like you Colm ?
@Colm: I hope that they don’t.
@Colm:
Away goals should only count for the first 90mins in a tie, as there isn’t 30 extra minutes in the first tie for a team to score an away goal.
Just saying.
@iohanx: ah boo hoo
@Ríain HenC: LOL
@old man trucker:
Not a fan, have always held that belief. The rule should change, and it would be a good one.
@Ríain HenC: you crying in your liverpool pyjamas
@Colm: yes LOL Colm , the holders of the Champions League are out but still Premiership Champions elect , I can’t argue with a guy of your intellect … LOL !
@Colm: no bud snuggled up inside your mothers Man Utd dressing gown , her left nipple is like a Rugby stud from you feeding off it as an Adult :D

Time for another Anfield masterclass.
@Logan Shepherd: I really hope so. Hopefully Bobby can break his Anfield drought too
@my name: they’ll raise the roof if he does.
@my name: Even if he doesn’t, he will still be central to most of the good moves up front. He is one genius, selfless, star footballer.
@Logan Shepherd: The Ox has had a great half
@my name: Sure has .. picking up some great positions and always a threat.
@Logan Shepherd: Mo definitely up for it too & that tackle from Trent….
@my name: In fairness they are all doing a good job. If they maintain it, we should win in normal time. I’m getting old you know .. not sure how many more heart stoppers I can take :-)
@Logan Shepherd: I’m not able
@my name: My man crush is alive and well ….
@Logan Shepherd: how’s that working out
@old man trucker: Grand ..
@Logan Shepherd:
Atlethico gave the masterclass
Should be behind closed doors. Crazy that it’s not.
Cheerio cheeerio cheerio…..
@Joe: Souness is sick, it’s so funny!
Alisson is a massive loss. Great to see Henderson back. Fabinho can have no complaints, he’s been a long way from his best since he returned from injury.
I think Mane could be the man tonight after the gamesmanship he had to put up with in the 1st leg. It should be a cracker!
Corner taken quickly……….,SAUL
@InOleWeTrust: To be fair to Ole. Hes a nice fellah. Shocking manager.
@InOleWeTrust: Ah ole. Give it a rest kid.
@InOleWeTrust: Ole is a Fanny , AndOleHasThrush

Gotta love Diego Costa!
Wijnaldum, a man for the big occasion.
Wet and windy conditions, Adrian is gonna destroy his shorts
@Ave it: WELL WELL WELL SCUTTER ALL OVER
Gini .. us
I hope the referee takes no S#*T tonight from Ath faking injury , ridiculous diving , trying to get players booked , Ref needs balls for this and crumble under the pressure of the Kop and give us 2/3 penalties !! Ta
@Ríain HenC: bit of a contradiction there to have balls and crumble under pressure
@John Connolly: my humour is lost on you Mr John Connolly
Makes no odds who wins, there’ll be no champions league final this year anyway
@Peter Govan: thats the spirit!
42 bar me from posting my punt??? :(
@devils avacado: welcome to the journal.
Don’t know how Liverpool didn’t win that in normal time. Only one team playing and trying to win.
Well that escalated quickly :-(
Hate teams that constantly surround the ref. Disgusting from athletico
That keeper is a complete bufoon.
We need Ryan Babel :-)
Good half. Best for a while.
@Verandah: thought that might make you happy alright
Result won’t make a difference, Juve player confirmed with coronavirus . There goes the CL ! PL will follow suit shortly
Wow Adrian… Simple pass out to milner. I miss Allison.
@Yorkie1892: it’s so frustrating for the outfield players giving it everything when your keeper goes and does that.
@Seaniecp: be no faith in him. Team was flowing nicely. Then that.
Good night for Caoimhin Kelleher
Souness a shocking bad loser.
How come Kelleher isn’t on the bench?
@Hector Son: he is injured so Lonergan is in instead.
What tv channel is it on, anyone?
@Stephen Keane: BT sport2
@devils avacado: thanks, and feck it!
