Phil Thompson 'accidentally' confused Ashley Young with diver Tom Daley live on air

It’s (kind of) an easy mistake to make.

WHATEVER ABOUT THE football, Soccer Saturday never fails to deliver.

Last week, we were treated to Paul Merson at his best as he offered insightful analysis of the current situation at Manchester United.

And this afternoon, it was the turn of Phil Thompson to steal the show.

The Liverpool legend trolled Man United winger Ashley Young live on air as the panel discussed Louis van Gaal’s team selection for today’s game against West Brom.

Young was at the centre of another diving storm during the week when he appeared to go down easily during the Champions League game against CSKA Moscow.

It’s not the first time the England international has come under-fire for simulation with Roy Keane called Young ‘an absolute disgrace.’

Thompson wasted little time in having a dig at Young by calling him Tom Daley. The same Tom Daley who has won European, World and Olympic diving medals.

“They should be playing Tom Daley on the left, sorry I meant Ashley Young,” Thompson said on Sky Sports.

He insisted it was an honest mistake but we’re not entirely convinced.
