'A couple more wins and I hope we'll see the real Jose'

Phil Neville wants to see more of the fighting spirit the coach showed against Pep Guardiola whilst at Real Madrid.

JOSE MOURINHO HAS not been himself yet at Old Trafford, according to Manchester United old boy Phil Neville, who wants the manager to show his true fighting colours.

While Mourinho still has plenty to say in his press conferences, he’s still not been as animated at United as we’ve previously seen him on the touchline with other clubs.

After spending big in the summer, results have not quite gone Mourinho’s way this season and he took the step of apologising in his pre-game program notes on Wednesday for their humiliating defeat at Chelsea on Sunday.

He did get a win over arch rival Pep Guardiola as United beat Manchester City 1-0 in the EFL Cup at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, and Neville hopes that could bring the Mourinho spark back.

Mourinho was never afraid to mix it with Barcelona boss Guardiola when he was at Real Madrid, and Neville wants to see more of that fight, and the siege mentality he installed at Chelsea, during his time at United.

“You saw it with Real Madrid and Barcelona. How he went to war with Pep. You just hope now… do it again!” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“Sir Alex Ferguson did it all the time with managers who were competing against him. A couple more wins and I hope we’ll see the real Jose.

“I look back at previous managers of this club and they’ve never been afraid to say what they want, acting like they do.

“They are traditions you have to behold but United fans want to see the real Jose, that siege mentality that he had at Chelsea, ‘us against the world’ and bring it to Old Trafford.”
